What you should know about 2nd Trimester Pregnancy

From week 13 to week 28 is the 2nd trimester pregnancy. This is the middle phase wherein the mothers feel at their best during the pregnancy. The tiredness that the mothers feel on the first phase is changed with extreme vitality and energy in this stage. Morning sickness is also wearing off in this stage, although to some mothers, they tend to continue throughout the pregnancy.

During the 2nd trimester pregnancy, the bump will become obvious, as the uterus that contains the fetus that is growing is starting to protrude the above of pelvic rim. This is the time the woman feel that she is really pregnant. This time is exciting for them. It is also the best excuse for them to go shopping as their tummies and waistbands are continuing to grow.

However, 2nd trimester pregnancy has its downsides as well. The breasts of the pregnant woman are continuing to become sore and tender, as they are preparing for breast-feeding the child. Heartburns and constipation are other common troubles that the pregnant woman experiences in this stage, but, they can be treated with remedies. They must be prescribed by the GP. There is always a wise precaution with pregnant women taking medications, whether they are prescribed or over-the-counter, without you consulting your doctor first.

The mother must eat healthy foods to ensure that the baby is getting the needed vitamins and nutrients, just like you. But, pregnant woman should not make an excuse of eating for two persons. You may gain pounds during your pregnancy, but never overdo it, as you may problems in the future when it is time for losing it.

The expectant mother may sometimes crave for unusual foods, or even strange combinations of them. Also, she may dislike a certain food that she loved before she got pregnant. The change in the appetite is believed to be one of the effects of hormonal changes in the women.

If you are following your pregnancy every week, you may find that at the 20th week, a second scan will be performed. This scan will check the size of the baby and the development in the anatomy of the baby. At 28th week, by the end of 2nd trimester pregnancy, the baby will be measured and found to be approximately 24 cm, form the baby’s crown to the bay’s bottom. The baby will weigh 900g by then. If the baby will be born at that time, he has the 95% chance of survival.
